Celebrated for his love for Greek cuisine, George Calombaris has reached international acclaim through his popular restaurants and his 12-year stint as a judge on MasterChef Australia.
In April 2023, George opened Hellenic House Project in Melbourne’s Highett and is the Culinary Director at Hotel Sorrento, one of Melbourne’s oldest and most loved establishments on the Mornington Peninsula, where he continues to elevate the dining experience with his signature flair. George also recently joined the team at Alpha, one of Sydney’s most respected Greek restaurants, as creative partner to refresh and reinvigorate the offering, introducing a lighter, more playful collection of Greek dishes and an injection of energy to steer this restaurant into a new era.
George has been with Blu. from the start, testing our prototypes for quality and durability, and putting them through the demands of professional kitchens. It took us 7 years before we earned his coveted professional cookware stamp of approval. From testing their endurance in daily kitchen use to ensuring the best non-stick quality, George has helped develop and evolve Blu. into what it is today. As our in-house chef, George continues to develop healthy and delicious recipes that we are thrilled to share with you to help you embrace conscious cooking easily.
When away from the bustling kitchen, George finds solace in the simple joys of life, including spending quality time with his wife Natalie, son James and daughter Michaela. The family’s Arthurs Seat home in the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria reflects George’s shift towards a more mindful and sustainable lifestyle. Embracing eco-friendly habits, their home is a model of caring for the environment, powered entirely by solar energy and sustained by rainwater harvesting. The Calombaris family finds joy in the shared art of cooking and coming together to celebrate food and family, a cherished tradition that strengthens their bond and highlights the importance of togetherness.
